This is just a very interesting revealing in terms of Bionic Woman, a show that has had the more controversy then any other new show this fall. Well to add insult to injury it seems as though Michelle Ryan has been dealing with depression while working on Bionic Woman. I have never seen the term depression thrown around as much as it is in these times, but Michelle Ryan could have some issues that could be the downfall of the show before it even starts. Here is what WhatsOnTV.Co.UK had to say about it.
Ex-EastEnders star Michelle Ryan, who played Zoe Slater, has revealed that she asked to be written out of the show for several months so she could recover from depression.
In 2002, the star was at the centre of media gossip about her weight and was struggling to cope with the death of her grandfather.
She told WENN: “People were saying I looked too big on screen and commenting if I put on the slightest amount of weight. I felt terrible. I was at an age when I was still trying to come to terms with my body.”
Michelle added that she was a perfectionist and put huge pressure on herself to perform well, but ultimately found it draining.
The star found fame as Zoe, whose most dramatic storyline saw her discover that her sister, Kat, was actually her mother.
She eventually left the soap after five years in 2005 to pursue other projects. Since then, she has appeared in ITV1 period drama Mansfield Park, and BBC One thriller Jekyll.
Her big-screen career has also taken off recently. She has recorded roles in Brit flick I Want Candy and forthcoming Welsh release Flick, starring Faye Dunaway.
But it’s in the US where Michelle has had her biggest break, landing the leading role in a remake of classic Seventies series The Bionic Woman.

Maureen Ryan a TV Critic at the Tribube has written a real indepth article on the major trends for the new shows coming to TV this fall. Bionic Woman made his lists twice throughout the article, making it definitely a show that is hitting a few of the common trends. The two in which Bionic Woman made its way into includes the category of “super abilities” which Ryan considers a part of the trend started by Heroes. The second category in which Bionic Woman made its way into for the top trends of the new shows this Fall was that of foreigners taking the lead role. He is obviously talking about Michelle Ryan as she is among the many foreigners who has come over to the US to show off her talent on US television.
For the rest of the article head over the MetroMix at the Chicago Tribune to read on all the new trends.

As we grow closer, and as more people one way or another view the pilot for Bionic Woman, there are more and more articles pertaining to what can be expected from this upcoming show. BuddyTV has an interesting article looking into whether Bionic Woman is focusing to much time on style over substance. This has been a problem for many shows of this type, any big name blockbuster whether TV Show or Movie has to make sure they don’t overdo things in order to make everything look good on screen. Here is what BuddyTV said on the subject:
Bionic Woman’s writing staff will be trading the emotional irony of a deaf girl trying to fit in against a mutilated woman restored without her consent for a hot teen hacker chick, the one requisite for any modern sci-fi show.
The part of Becca Sommers will now be played by a raven haired Lucy Hale. Aside from guest spots on teen fare Drake & Josh, The O.C., and a recent turn on How I Met Your Mother, the young Hale is pretty much an untested commodity as far as resume length is concerned.
Bionic Woman producers have moved quickly to dispel any notion that they are trading interesting character motivation for a potential Hayden Panettiere. Producer Jason Smilovic explains the original character’s deafness as simply a device to legitimatize Jamie Sommers’ ability to speak to monkeys. “…the chimpanzees were going to Dr. Anthros (Chris Bowers), who was using them for experimentation. He would come down to get the chimpanzees and they sort of fell in love during that time. We were looking for an organic way for her to be talking to the chimpanzees in sign language.”

I am a big fan of shows being shown earlier then there supposed to, call it a pleasant surprise, something that it looks like NBC wants to give us this year with many of there new shows this fall. It looks like for specific cable and satellite providers are going to get an early look at the pilot for Bionic Woman. Digital Media Wire had this to say about the early showing of Bionic Woman.
NBC has teamed with the major cable and satellite TV providers to make the pilot episodes for its upcoming fall TV shows available for preview on their video-on-demand systems, Variety reported.
Partners include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Charter, Cox, DISH Network and DirecTV.
Episodes of NBC’s “Chuck,” “Bionic Woman,” “Journeyman” and “Life” will be made available on Sept. 10, about two weeks prior to their broadcast premieres, along with a 30-minute NBC fall preview special.

It’s funny, with all of the controversy that holds around the Isaiah Washington acquisition for Bionic Woman, we have lost sight on the show specifics and continued down the path of controversy. Well today marks a new day, as I was surfing I came across an interesting article that was all the information we know thus far on the role of the sister in Bionic Woman. Here is what CanMag had to say about that:
“The character has been re-cast and has been re-conceived,” said producer Jason Smilovic. “To help us get more traction as we move into episodic, the character has a background in computer hacking. We’ve used the character to sort of open up this channel to the parents who were activists back in the day and who were very keen on saving the world, but as a result, sort of neglected their own children.”
The character was originally conceived as a deaf woman speaking sign language, but that will no longer be a trait. “Without going into too much detail, it’s that Jaime was originally working in a lab. She was going to be assigned to these chimpanzees. The chimpanzees were going to Dr. Anthros [Chris Bowers], who was using them for experimentation. He would come down to get the chimpanzees and they sort of fell in love during that time. We were looking for an organic way for her to be talking to the chimpanzees in sign language.”

According to several sources, but coming straight from TowleRoad.com they have brought it to our attention that Isaiah Washington will open up Star Jones new talk show on Court TV. I cannot believe that Isaiah Washington is getting as much play time as he has with his recent issues with former Grey’s Anatomy cast members. Here is what TowleRoad.com had to say:
“How does this all relate to Jones’ law-themed show? ‘[Washington is] clearly in the middle of a story that involves law and ethics and values and judgment,’ Jones said. ‘But also, he has a brand-new show that brings up ethical considerations. We’re excited about The Bionic Woman, but there are ethical considerations [there] because we in our technology right now are moving to replacing limbs, and we’re moving in the whole area of stem cell research, we’re moving in the area of cloning and whether or not it can actually be done with a human. And in reality, that’s what you’re doing with The Bionic Woman, you’re playing God. And so I get an opportunity to talk about those kinds of issues.’”

I love this time of year, we are just getting so close to the upcoming Fall Season of TV and now we are starting to see a lot of big name entertainment outlets make there predictions for the best and worst of the upcoming Fall Season. AOL TV is one of the big entertainment networks out there that has there predictions on the upcoming Fall Season for this year and with that they made Bionic Woman the #2 Slot on the Best Shows to look forward to this fall. Here is what AOL TV had to say.
The ’70s cult sensation returns to primetime, and thankfully it’s more reimagining than remake (think ‘Battlestar Galactica’). This time out, the tone is darker and the storytelling is deeper. Take, for example, the moment when Jamie uses her new bionic hearing for the first time in a bar, and becomes so overwhelmed by the tumult she rushes off to vomit. Don’t recall Lindsay Wagner breaking down in a toilet stall. Plus, the show has a worthy villain in an embittered “first” bionic woman, played by scene-stealing ‘Battlestar’ vet Katee Sackhoff.
Go over to AOL TV to check out the complete list of best and worst of this year’s shows.

I am loving all the attention that Bionic Woman is grabbing in the media even before it is premiered, as they always say any publicity is good publicity. Since the signing of Isaiah Washington to do a handful of episodes on the upcoming Bionic Woman, NBC has been under a lot of heat from various groups. This article on the Desert Morning News looks at what NBC now has on there plate and the possible ramifications of signing Isaiah Washington. Here is a brief snipet:
“It’s not so much that the network has hired Isaiah Washington for its “Bionic Woman” remake after he was jettisoned from “Grey’s Anatomy” in the wake of his tossing gay slurs around. It’s that NBC is just so darn excited about hiring Washington, and is treating this as a big “get.”
“He’s a wonderful actor and a great performer,” gushed NBC Entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman, who brushed aside any suggestion that Washington brings any baggage with him.
Asked if he was worried that Washington’s presence would alienate some viewers, Silverman answered without answering at all.
“You know what? I think people are tuning in to the ‘Bionic Woman,’ and whatever support we can give to the ‘Bionic Woman’ as possible, we will give,” Silverman said. “And I think that he is a wonderful actor. I think he is really talented.”

With each day we grow closer to the beginning of the new TV season and with that networks try to gague how much marketing they need to do for there shows by checking out the buzz. According to MediaWeek, Bionic Woman is at the top of the buzz meter for the upcoming shows this fall. Here is what MediaWeek had to say:
“BC’s Bionic Woman and ABC’s Cavemen are the highest-rated new network TV programs on this Fall’s prime-time schedule in terms of viewer buzz, awareness and intent to watch, according to TV Dailies, a syndicated service that measures pre-premiere metrics via online polling.”
The early buzz is strong but that doesn’t necessarily mean much of anything until the shows start.
