Not Good News for Bionic Woman, Ratings Fall Again
Written by Brenda on October 18th, 2007
Although many have praised the shows progress in terms of plot lines and the show developing into a really solid rendition of the old classic. Since the stellar premiere of Bionic Woman, the show has seen a dramatic decline in the ratings, in fact, Bionic Woman hit an all time low last night in it’s forth episode on NBC. Here is what Media Life Magazine had to say about last nights staggering results:
NBC’s “Bionic Woman” got off to a strong start but the show seems to be losing its muscle. From its first to its fourth episode, the new drama has slipped 42 percent.
“Bionic” averaged a series-low 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 last night, according to Nielsen overnights measuring live-plus-same-day digital video recorder viewing, off 13 percent from last week’s 3.8 and way down from a 5.7 in its premiere.
Some erosion is to be expected for any new series these days, especially with the increase in DVRs in Nielsen’s household sample, which make it impossible to tell how much of programs’ week-to-week declines are due to audiences tuning out or simply recording the show. Seven-day playback numbers will be available in a few weeks to provide an answer.
But the live-plus-same-day viewing decrease for “Bionic” seen in the overnights is not promising. The show won its brutal timeslot in its debut but has since fallen to third, barely ahead of Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares.”
Last night for the first time, “Bionic” saw its viewership slip from its first to its second half hour.
The declines have prompted media people to start speculating on whether NBC will move the show. Many still think it has potential and could thrive in a different timeslot, perhaps behind the hit show “Heroes” on Monday at 10 p.m., where NBC has struggled to find compatible programming.
ABC led again at 9 p.m. with a 4.3 for “Practice,” while CBS jumped to second with a 3.9 for “Criminal Minds.” NBC was third with a 3.3 for “Bionic,” Fox fourth with a 3.2 for “Nightmares,” Univision fifth with a 2.1 for “Destilando Amor” and CW sixth with a 1.2 for “Gossip Girl.”
This is not good news for Bionic Woman, but there is no way NBC is going to give up on the show yet. We all know NBC gave Studio 60 last year its fair chance of gaining an audience in different time slots and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bionic Woman jumping ship over to the Monday night 10pm slot that Journeyman has been struggling with. We will see, but this is not good news if your a fan of Bionic Woman.
I am liking Bionic Woman more and more especially now that Isaiah Washington is in it. Give the show a chance. I can’t believe how fast TV Shows are pulled if they aren’t getting top ratings. I mean millions are watching this show, but I guess not enough millions for the powers that be. It’s sad. I really liked STUDIO 66… It was better than most of the shows that are still on.
I think you mean Studio 60. Yes we will have to see how the show does in the next few weeks. I to was a fan of Studio 60 but it wasn’t going any where was the problem.
